Why You Shouldn’t Ignore that Constant Headache

Headaches are quite common during the winters, especially if you step out without covering your head. However, it doesn’t take much for these headaches to turn into a migraine, which is a far more serious concern.
As it is, migraine is one of the most over looked, misdiagnosed, mistreated, and taken for granted diseases. Because of its very elusive nature, the problem goes untreated until it has progressed to a dangerous degree.
That’s why you should never dismiss frequent headaches, because what you may call ‘harmless’ could be indicative of a bigger problem.
Risk of a Stroke There is no conclusive proof linking migraine to increased risk of stroke, but doctors are firm in their belief that there is a connection between both. Migraines have also been known to interfere with (and complicate) a lot of other diseases.
Reduced Chances of Treatment Like many chronic diseases, the chances of successfully treating migraines go down as the disease progresses. That’s why it’s imperative you diagnose and treat this condition in its earliest stages. The best way to go about dealing with migraines and headaches is to seek headache remedies in the initial days when the problem is detected.
Problems to Eyes and Teeth One of the worst side effects of migraine is the trouble it causes to the eyes and the teeth. In many cases, persistent headaches have caused permanent loss of vision and severe dental problems.
If you’re having repetitive headaches, or headaches whose origin you can’t explain properly, we suggest you visit a doctor at the earliest so that he can get to the underlying cause of the problem and fix it. Don’t let your ignorance stand in way of a healthy and disease-free life.

Jaundice

Jaundice is a condition where the skin and the whites of the eyes take on a yellow tint. Modern medicine does not consider it to be a disease but a symptom of liver disorders like liver infection, gallstones and cirrhosis of liver. In Ayurveda, Jaundice is known as Kamala

Causes

Increased intake of oily, spicy, sour, salty, alkaline, penetrating and very hot foods; alcohol; and sesame oil cause Pitta (Ayurvedic humor representing Fire) aggravation. The aggravated Pitta then impairs the blood and the muscle tissue of the liver, causing blockage in the channels of the liver and thus Pitta (in the form of bile) is thrown back into the blood leading to discoloration of the eyes and skin. Sleeping in the daytime, excessive physical work, overindulgence in sexual activity, suppressing the natural urges of the body, and psychological factors like lust, fear, anger, and stress can also be causative factors in cases of Jaundice.

Symptoms

  • Drowsiness
  • Weakness
  • Fatigue
  • Yellowish discoloration of the eyes, skin and nail
  • Flatulence
  • Lack of appetite
  • Burning sensation in the body
  • Low-grade fever
  • Indigestion
  • Excessive thirst
  • Loss of libido

Ayurvedic View

Ayurvedic treatment of Jaundice involves pacifying aggravated body energies using herbs that stimulate the function of the liver and increase the flow of bile in the bile duct. Digestion is also restored with the help of a customized diet plan to ensure efficient metabolism.

Diet & Lifestyle Advice

  • Avoid hot, spicy, oily, and heavy foods; eat a vegetarian diet.
  • Avoid refined flour, polished rice (white rice), mustard oil, mustard seeds, asafetida, peas, canned and preserved foods, cakes, pastries, chocolates, alcoholic beverages, and aerated drinks.
  • Increase intake of whole-wheat flour, brown rice or parboiled rice, mangoes, bananas, tomatoes, spinach, potatoes, Indian gooseberries (amla), grapes, radishes, lemons, dried dates, raisins, almonds, and cardamom.
  • Avoid unnecessary exercise and stressful conditions such as anxiety or anger.
  • Take complete rest.
  • Avoid working under the sun or near boilers and furnaces.

Home Remedies

  • Mix 1 teaspoon of roasted barley powder with a glass of water. Add 1 teaspoon of honey to it and have this twice a day.
  • Add 1 teaspoon paste of basil leaves to a glassful of radish juice. Have this juice twice a day for 15-20 days.
  • Take one teaspoon pulp of Indian Aloe Vera with black salt and dry ginger powder every morning for a period of 10 days.
  • Mash bitter gourd and extract its juice. Take one-fourth cup of the juice in the early morning daily.

Allergies

Anything that is easily available in or around your home, and has a medicinal use, may be used as a home remedy. Most Ayurvedic home remedies are a blend of commonly used herbs and spices to cure common symptoms or prevent any ailment.
Substances such as clove, cinnamon, black pepper, cumin, fennel, rock salt, turmeric, coriander, ginger, honey, licorice, garlic, onion, basil and mint are generally regarded as effectvie home remedies. Ayurveda also prescribes some exercises, massaging techniques, aromas and cleansing therapies as natural home remedies.
Simple home remedies can be very effective in relieving symptoms, and preventing further development of a disorder. However, once a disease has fully manifested and reached the final stage of development, specific treatments are required. Home remedies may also support treatments prescribed by a physician. In some cases, even a proper diet can be a home remedy as it reduces the severity of symptoms experienced and avoids unintended aggravation of the condition.
